Met a former mall cop outside the old Orange Juluis at Granite Run

Last month I was snapping photos of the empty carousel near the entrance. This older guy wearing a security windbreaker walked up and asked if I was writing a book. Turns out he patrolled that mall from 1993 to 2005. He pointed at the cracked tile and said, "That's where a kid threw up on Santa's lap every year." Then he told me the food court fountain used to leak into the basement, so they hid a sump pump behind a fake plant. He left before I could ask about the arcade. Anyone else ever meet old staff or tenants who remember the place before it died?

Jeez, I never really thought about what went on behind the scenes at those places. Always figured the creepy stories were just about the abandoned parts, not the everyday weird stuff like a hidden pump. That Santa throw up detail got me though, totally changes how I see those old mall photos.
