My barber said the old mall's food court was the best place to get a haircut in the 90s

He said the barber shop was next to the Orange Julius, and the sound of the blender was his favorite part of the day. Makes you wonder what other weird little shops were tucked away in those places.

Oh wow, that reminds me of a story I read online. Some guy wrote about a tiny shop in his mall that just sold magnets. Nothing else, just hundreds of weird magnets. And there was another one that only repaired old radios and VCRs, right next to a cookie place. Makes you miss those strange little spots that just couldn't survive now.

Remember the weird little pet store in the old mall. The one that always smelled like cedar chips. I bought a hermit crab there. It escaped into the heating vent and we just heard tiny claws at night. My mom still brings that up.

That hermit crab story is perfect. I had a hamster from a mall pet shop that did the same thing. We found it a week later living behind the fridge, fat on spilled cereal. Those little stores had such a specific smell, like cedar and dry food. It’s sad that kind of place is just gone now. You don’t get those weird, personal problems from a big chain store.
