Rant: That $8 I spent on a rusty old food court chair
Found this beat up chair from the closed food court at Granite Run Mall for 8 bucks at a flea market. Figured it'd be a cool piece for my garage. Got it home and the thing literally collapsed under me while I was sitting on it reading a magazine. Has anyone else wasted money on junk from mall liquidations that fell apart?

That 8 bucks got you a story and a lesson. I bought a rolling rack from the old Strawbridge's clearance once, thought I'd use it for hanging coats in the mudroom. Thing was missing half the wheels and the crossbar snapped the first time I put a wet jacket on it. People act like mall liquidation stuff is some kind of treasure find, but it's usually just junk the mall couldn't sell for a reason. You should've just put it up on cinder blocks in the garden and called it decor.

The real issue is that mall liquidation stuff comes with a hidden tax of frustration. That rack might have cost you eight bucks, but the time you spent wrestling with it, the annoyance of watching it fall apart, and the mental energy of deciding what to do with it adds up to way more than the price tag. Think about it, the mall already failed because people stopped shopping there, and the liquidators are just trying to unload whatever is left before it goes to a dumpster. You basically paid for the privilege of doing their garbage sorting for them. Wouldn't it be cheaper in the long run to just skip that whole mess and buy something new that actually works for the job you need it to do?
