So I dropped $12 on a 'haunted' mall map from a weird kiosk and it actually led me to the best abandoned arcade

Yeah, that "layer of obvious junk" is the real filter. I always check the copyright date on weird maps and guides, the older the better. @rivera.susan, that subway find sounds amazing. For arcades specifically, look for water damage stains on the map paper, that usually means it's been somewhere real.

Oh man, that's the magic of it. The stuff that looks totally fake on the surface (like a haunted map) somehow holds the realest secrets. It's like the world hides its best stuff behind a layer of obvious junk.

Man, that reminds me of the time I bought a "secret" guide to old subway tunnels from a guy at a flea market. It was just a bunch of photocopied pages stapled together, but one sketch led to this forgotten platform with all these old ads still painted on the walls. Felt like stepping right into another time. Those weird little finds are always the best.
