Stop using your phone flash for dead mall photos

Ngl, everyone keeps taking pics with their phone flash on and it washes out all the cool old signage and tile work. I went to the Rolling Acres Mall in Akron last month and my shots looked way better using just the ambient light from the skylights. Has anyone else noticed the difference?

oh wait actually i gotta point out that Rolling Acres has been closed for years so you definitely didnt go there last month lol. but i totally get what you mean about the flash thing. the problem is phone flashes are super harsh and they kill all the atmosphere those old malls have. i went to Randall Park Mall a while back and same deal, the neon looked way better without the flash bouncing off everything. ambient light just does a better job catching the dust and decay that makes these places interesting.

Dude, you're totally right about the flash thing. I swear, half the time I see people post mall photos online they've got that awful harsh white light washing everything out like a crime scene. It's just not the same as letting the natural light from those old skylights or the neon itself do the work. I feel you on Randall Park too, that place is a gem and the moody lighting is half the reason it's so haunting. Phone flashes are basically just ruining the whole point of exploring these places, if you ask me.
