The food court at Northgate Mall in Seattle went from busy to completely empty in just 18 months after they removed the only working escalator
Always figured foot traffic patterns were overblown until I saw that exact same dead food court with my own eyes last week, anyone else notice one small change kill a whole section of their local dead mall?

Oh man, that is such a classic dead mall death spiral. It's like when my local coffee shop closed off their only bathroom and suddenly nobody wanted to hang out there anymore. I get it, escalators are the lifeblood of those places - take one away and you've basically told half the customers "good luck walking up those stairs with your Orange Julius." It turns into this weird loop where less people come, so stores close, which makes even fewer people show up. Pretty sure I've been that one guy wandering around an empty food court, just hoping for a working water fountain. Total mall zombie vibes.
