The fountain at Northgate Mall is just a big concrete hole now

I was at Northgate Mall in Chattanooga last Tuesday and the main fountain is totally gone. They just filled it in with concrete and painted it gray, you can still see the round shape in the floor. I remember being a kid in the 90s and throwing pennies in there with my grandma. The whole food court feels weirdly quiet without the water sound. Has anyone else seen a mall just patch over a fountain like that?

Our old mall in Knoxville did the exact same thing to their centerpiece fountain about five years ago. They just paved it over and put a sad little planter in the middle of the circle. It really does kill the whole vibe of the place.

My cousin's wedding photos were actually taken around that fountain, which is a weird thing to remember now.
