The great food court dilemma: Sbarro or the Chinese place that's been there since 92
Went to the Crystal Mall in Waterford last weekend and had to pick between a Sbarro that looked like the cheese melted in 2005 or a Chinese spot with one light working. Chose the Chinese place and got a combo that tasted like they forgot to wash the rice cooker. Anybody else face impossible food choices in these ghost malls?

Wait, did they at least get the rice right even if the cooker was nasty? That combo plate deal is always a gamble, the general tso's can either be amazing or taste like they dumped a whole bottle of soy sauce in it. Was the chicken at least crispy or was it all soggy?

Plain white rice or fried rice? That makes a big difference. If it was plain white rice and it was sticky or clumpy, they either didn't rinse it before cooking or used way too much water. Next time, ask for it extra dry if you're getting takeout, it helps a lot. As for the chicken, soggy usually means they didn't drain the oil after frying or they sauced it way too early and it sat on the heat too long. Real crispy chicken snaps when you bite into it, not squishes. Solid advice there.
