Tried to get a photo of the old food court fountain at the Westgate Mall...

Drove 45 minutes out to the Westgate Mall last weekend because I heard they still had the original 80s fountain running. Got there and the water was green, like swamp green. There was a half empty soda cup floating in it with a straw still in it. I guess I learned that some malls really are beyond saving and maybe I should lower my expectations for these trips. Anyone else ever drive way out to a dead mall just to find it's even more dead than you thought?

A green fountain with a floating soda cup sounds about right for a mall that time forgot. Seems like you expected a preserved time capsule and got a sad fish tank instead. Maybe treat it like a scavenger hunt next time - see how many weird stains or abandoned kiosks you can spot before the smell gets too bad.
