Warning: That food court fountain smell gets into everything
Spent this past Saturday at the old Galleria in Bloomington, the one that shut down in 2019. I was there maybe 20 minutes, just checking out the sunken food court area and taking some photos of the 80s tile work. But that stagnant water smell from the dry fountain, it clung to my jacket and my camera bag all day. Even after washing my hoodie twice, I still caught whiffs of it. Not the moldy carpet smell you usually get, this one was way more specific. Has anyone else had a dead mall smell follow them home? I've been to 30+ of these places and this was the first time it's been that bad. Curious if it's just that particular building or if I'm doing something wrong with how I'm carrying my stuff.

Did you toss your stuff in a trash bag before putting it in the car? That smell gets into fabric like nothing else, so sealing it off right away is key. I've had it stick to a backpack for weeks after one trip, so I always keep a plastic bag in the car now. A quick spray of cheap vodka on the jacket before washing can break down that stubborn water stink too.
