Wasted 40 bucks at the old food court in the Galleria Mall

I drove two hours to the Galleria Mall in White Plains last Saturday after seeing some pics online of the old food court with this cool neon sign still hanging. Got there and the place is roped off with caution tape and a locked gate... couldn't even get close to it. The whole east wing is closed for demolition prep. I spent $15 on gas and another $25 on a parking garage that charged by the hour cause I was hoping they'd open it later. The security guard told me they've been shutting down sections since March and the food court is getting gutted next month. So I basically paid to walk around an empty Macy's and look at a boarded up Orange Julius from 50 feet away. Anyone else drive somewhere for a specific dead mall spot and find out it's already gone?

That "wasted 40 bucks" part hits hard, I've been there. Heard a podcast where a guy drove six hours to an abandoned mall in Ohio only to find the parking lot had been turned into a storage yard for construction equipment. How do you even check ahead of time for stuff like this without driving there?

Satellite images on Google Maps are usually outdated by months or even years. Street view might be your best bet but even that can be outdated. Ive had good luck checking Google Maps reviews for recent photos people uploaded or looking at recent posts on urbex forums for that specific spot. Some guy on here might have scouted it last week and posted that the roof collapsed.

Buddy of mine drove two hours to a burned-out barn. Satellite showed it standing.
