Dug out my old Zip drive instead of using cloud backup
My laptop died last week with all my 2007-2010 photos on it. I had two options: pay $60 for a recovery service or find my Iomega 250MB Zip drive and the discs I burned back in college. Picked the Zip drive because I knew the photos were on three separate discs from my time in Columbus. Took about two hours to dig through boxes and install the parallel port drivers on an old tower, but every single photo came back. Anyone else keep ancient storage around for no good reason, or am I the only one?
Every single photo came back" after two hours of digging through boxes and wrestling parallel port drivers? That's some serious dedication and honestly kind of legendary. I'm half surprised those discs even read, let alone that the old Iomega software actually worked on a modern system. You basically outperformed a cloud service with pure stubbornness and I respect that a lot.
