My old Zune gave up the ghost at a coffee shop in Portland
I was sitting at this place called Deadstock in Portland last month, scrolling through my Zune 80 like a weirdo. Suddenly the screen just went white and never came back on. I had 60 gigs of indie bands from 2006 - 2009 on there, stuff I can't even find on Spotify. Has anyone else lost a whole music library to a dead hard drive that you can't even retrieve?

Oh man, that exact thing happened to me with an iPod classic a few years back. Try taking it to a local electronics repair shop that specializes in old hard drives, they might be able to pull the data off without replacing the whole thing. Did you get a chance to plug it into a computer to see if it still shows up as a drive?

Plugged mine into a Windows machine and it didn't show up as a drive, but the Mac still saw it as a FireWire device. Did you try both USB and FireWire ports, or just one? Might be worth checking which port your iPod clicks with before you go spending money on a repair shop.
