Three hundred bucks down the drain on a Zune HD.
Bought it in 2010 because I thought it'd beat the iPod. Battery gave out after 18 months. Microsoft stopped supporting the software, couldn't even sync music. Wasted another $50 on a replacement battery kit that never arrived. Anyone else get burned on dead platform hardware like this?

Three hundred bucks down the drain" really gets me, because I was one of those people who defended Zune hard back in the day. I used to think Microsoft had a real shot at competing with Apple, you know, like the underdog story. But after watching them drop support for the whole platform and leave people with expensive paperweights, I totally changed my mind. It's not just about losing money on hardware, it's about trusting a company to keep their product alive for more than a couple years. That experience made me way more careful about buying into any "ecosystem" that isn't backed by a proven track record.
