I figured those aftermarket EGR delete kits were just a waste of money.

A buddy in my shop kept pushing me to try one on my personal truck, a 2012 Duramax. I finally caved and spent about $400 on a kit from a local parts store. After the install, the truck actually ran smoother and my fuel mileage went up by almost 2 mpg on my regular commute to Spokane. Has anyone else had a good experience with a specific brand, or did I just get lucky?

Yeah that mileage bump is real, especially on those older trucks. Just gotta know the risk like holly_craig said. My old 6.7 Powerstroke ran way better after a delete, but I kept all the stock parts in a box. Had to swap it all back on in a weekend when I moved to a county that did testing. Total pain, but cheaper than a fine.

My cousin's delete kit worked great until his truck failed a surprise smog check.

That "total pain" of swapping parts back is so true. A friend had a deleted Ram that ran perfect for years, then he got a job offer in California. He spent his whole last weekend before the move under that truck putting the factory stuff back on. The kit worked fine, but the hassle at the end was real.
