That farmer near Bakersfield taught me a hard lesson about fuel filters

Pulled a water separator off a 2020 Freightliner last month and the guy goes 'you know those things are just a money trap right?' Told him I'd seen too many injectors fail from water contamination. He laughed and said he's been running without one for 80k miles fine. Three weeks later he calls me his truck's running rough. Found rust in the fuel system from condensation. $4,200 in damages later he finally gets why I pushed back. Anyone else run into customers who think they know better than the manufacturer specs?

Wow, I actually read a Fleet Owner article about this exact problem last week. They did a test and found that water separators catch about 95% of condensation before it hits the injectors. The farmer probably saved a few bucks but that gamble almost never pays off in the long run. Did you end up charging him the full repair cost?

Man do you think he even CHECKED the water separator drain before blaming the truck?
