That old timer at the truck stop in Amarillo who said modern DEF systems are a waste
I was fueling up my service rig last fall and got talking with a retired fleet mechanic. He said, 'All this DEF junk just makes a simple engine complicated for no real gain.' But my shop sees way fewer regen cycles and cleaner exhaust on the newer trucks. Who's got it right here?

My old Pete runs cleaner and stronger since the DEF system got fixed.

I read that those newer DEF systems can actually improve fuel atomization when they're working right, not just cut emissions. Sounds like yours finally settled in and is running like it should.
