Update: I was overtorquing injector hold-down bolts for years

A tech from the Detroit Diesel training session pointed out I was using the wrong torque sequence, which explained the recurring blow-by on my 6.7 Powerstroke rebuilds. He showed me the factory spec sheet that lists a specific criss-cross pattern I'd missed. What's the one torque procedure you had to unlearn?

Man, I gotta disagree on the head bolts. The factory sequence for a small block is basically just a fancy spiral. The real issue isn't the pattern, it's people not cleaning the threads in the block or putting oil on the washers. I've seen more heads warp from dirt in the holes than from a slightly off torque order. That old school "center out" method everyone uses gets it done fine if you take your time and do clean work.

Heard a similar story about head bolts on old small blocks. The factory manual sequence is way different than what most guys do in their garage.

Yeah @charles_green, the factory sequence for a 350 is like a star pattern from the center out. What's the wrong way most people do it that causes problems?
