My tablet pen died mid-stroke on a 5 hour portrait and I nearly threw it across the room

I was in my home studio in Austin working on this really detailed digital portrait of my buddy's dog, like 3 hours in getting the fur texture just right. Then my Wacom pen just flat out dies, no warning, nothing. I sat there staring at the screen with this half-finished dog eye thinking I lost all that work since the last save. Turns out the battery in the pen just gave up, so I scrambled to find a replacement triple A, which took me 10 minutes because I always lose those things. When I finally got it working again the brush had reset to default size, so the next stroke was this comically fat blob right on the snout. Has anyone else had a stupid hardware fail mess up a piece they were really feeling?

Did you at least get a good scream out of it before digging for that battery? I feel like that fat blob on the snout would have been my final straw, probably would have just called it a "modern art interpretation" and walked away. The brush resetting is the real crime though, like the universe wanted to make sure you knew it was messing with you.
