That time my digital painting crashed 6 hours in and I had zero backups

I was in a coffee shop in Portland working on a commissioned portrait when Photoshop froze up on me, and after force quitting I found the auto-recover file was corrupt, so now I manually save every 15 minutes like a paranoid robot, anyone else been burned by auto-save failing at the worst moment?.

Turned on autosave to a separate folder on my external drive and started taking screen captures of my progress every half hour during long sessions. It's saved me three times since then from corrupted files or power outages.

Manual save every 15 minutes" doesn't cut it. Use versioning software that auto-saves every revision.
