Can we talk about how I used to hoard 200 bookmarks vs now just dumping everything into a notes app
Back in 2019 I had 1,200 bookmarks in Chrome organized into 40 folders I never touched, now I just paste every link into a single Google Doc with no labels at all. It started when my browser crashed and I lost everything, realized I never actually read 90% of those saved pages anyway. Does anyone else just toss links into one big pile or do you still over-organize like I used to?

Oh man, I feel this so hard. I was the same way with like 600 bookmarks in nested folders I'd agonized over. Then I started using a tool that auto-saves pages to plain text files I can search through later. Now I just dump everything into a single folder with a date stamp and let the search bar do the work. The organizing part was just me avoiding actually reading the stuff I saved.

Dump everything into one big pile here too. Jason's method of saving to plain text with date stamps is smart, but you still have to actually open the files later which is the same problem. The real trick isn't organizing or saving differently, it's just being honest about what you will actually read. Most of us bookmark or save stuff as a way to feel productive without doing the work. The search bar fix only works if you remember what you saved and bother to look for it. Maybe we should all just accept that 95% of saved links are digital gravestones for ideas we'll never get back to.
