My external hard drive with 10 years of game mods just clicked twice and went silent

Happened 3 days ago on my WD My Book 4TB. I had like 400GB of Skyrim mods alone, not to mention all my old sourceports and romhacks. I tried plugging it into a different USB port, then my laptop, nothing. The drive is spinning up but it makes that click of death sound twice then stops. I haven't opened it yet because I know that voids any chance of recovery. Has anyone used a data recovery service for a drive like this? Or should I just accept the loss and start fresh?
