PSA: I finally cleaned out my downloads folder after 6 years

I had 4,200 files in there, including 14 copies of the same PDF I kept downloading. Now my computer actually boots faster, anyone else been putting this off way too long?

Does a cluttered downloads folder really affect boot times that much?

And yeah, adding to what you're saying about boot times specifically, a cluttered downloads folder usually doesn't slow down startup unless it's on the same drive as your operating system and it's really full. In my experience, the bigger problem is how it affects system searches and file explorer loading, since it has to index all those extra files every time you open things up. Your mileage may vary though, some Windows builds seem to handle it worse than others from what I've seen.
