Walked into a library basement and found a full row of zip drives nobody has touched since 2002

I was at the Carnegie Library downtown last week looking for old city maps and stumbled into a storage room with 47 zip disks labeled things like "backup Q3 maps" and "family photos disc 2" just sitting there on a shelf gathering dust like a physical version of my downloads folder.

Haven't we all thought old tech was worthless until stumbling on something that proves us wrong?

@karen_sanchez10 you're speaking my language. I literally kept a box of old VHS tapes for 15 years thinking they were worthless junk, but then found a sealed copy of a weird 80s cartoon I recorded as a kid that some collector paid me $60 for. Guess all those years of hoarding dusty tech finally paid off for one dumb moment. Still got that box though... maybe the Betamax tapes in there will be gold someday.

Right there with you. Dug through my folks' attic last summer and found a box of minidiscs my brother made in high school. One had a demo from a local band that never released anything else, turned out to be worth a pretty penny to some collector. Now I'm eyeballing every old zip drive and floppy disk like it might be a lottery ticket just waiting to be cashed in.
