Lost my whole month of files when my laptop crapped out in Medellin

Three weeks into working from a coffee shop in Laureles, my 4 year old HP just died mid-sentence. Screen went black and it never powered on again. I had been lazy about backups and lost client contracts, photos, and a logo I was designing for a guy in Bogota. Anyone else here running their whole biz off a single laptop and living dangerously like I was?

Brother I had the exact same thing happen to me in Cartagena last year. My 2019 Dell just DIED while I was trying to send an invoice to a guy in the US. Lost all my travel photos from Peru AND a logo I made for a hostel owner in Santa Marta. The worst part was the coffee shop wifi wouldn't let me download anything bigger than 5MB so I spent three days using my phone hotspot to slowly move files around. Now I keep a tiny external SSD in my backpack at all times and back up every single time I switch cafes. Stupid how one dead motherboard can flip your whole life upside down.

Oh man, I feel this so hard! Same thing happened to me in Buenos Aires last spring. My old ASUS just gave up during a video call with a client and I lost everything from the past three months including a whole branding package I was building for a bakeshop. I was scrambling around Palermo trying to find a repair shop that spoke English and it was pure chaos. Now I'm paranoid and I literally backup my files to Google Drive every single night before I go to sleep. It's crazy how one busted laptop can just wreck everything you've been building.
