My client in Lisbon asked if I ever felt like a tourist in my own life.
We were talking about my plan to hop to Porto next, and he just looked at me and said, 'You move so fast, are you ever really here?' which hit different because I realized I'd spent 3 months in Portugal just working from cafes and my Airbnb, never learning the language past 'obrigado'.

Sometimes you need to just watch the city from a park bench.

Been there. I forced myself to join a weekly futsal game with locals. It was awkward at first but you stop being a ghost in the city. Pick one thing, a cooking class or a volunteer gig, and actually show up every week. It roots you.
