Ran into an old coworker in Medellín and we compared internet speeds
I was surprised to find out that the average internet speed here in Medellín is now faster than what I had back in my Austin apartment three years ago. Found this stat on a local expat blog while looking for coworking spots near Estadio. Has anyone else noticed certain cities catching up faster than they expected?

dude that's wild. "average internet speed here in Medellín is now faster than what I had back in my Austin apartment" - i feel this so hard. i moved from the bay area to buenos aires two years ago and my fiber connection here blows my old comcast plan out of the water. it's like some places just skipped over the whole slow internet era and jumped straight to gigabit speeds while we were stuck paying $80 for 50mbps.

Comcast is the absolute worst. I had them in Chicago and my internet would just die every time it rained. Meanwhile my cousin in some tiny town in Thailand has faster speeds than what I can get here in a major US city for a fraction of the price. It's like American ISPs figured out they could just give us garbage service and we'd have no choice but to pay for it. The whole infrastructure thing is so backwards. We pour billions into these companies and they just pocket it while other countries leapfrog us with modern networks.
