Am I the only one who thinks those pallet furniture projects are overrated?

Last summer I went to a neighborhood block party in Cleveland and saw a guy bragging about his pallet couch. It had splinters everywhere and a nail poking out the side. I tried building one myself with a free pallet from a hardware store and after 3 hours of sanding and pulling staples, the wood still looked rough. Has anyone else had better luck with something like a cheap lumber pile from a local mill instead?

Last year my neighbor spent 40 bucks on a pallet from a guy on Craigslist and ended up with termites in his garage. After that mess I just bought a few boards from a local mill for 12 dollars and built a simple bench that didn't fall apart. Pallet stuff looks cool on Pinterest but in real life its mostly just splinters and frustration.

I mean lmao it's just a piece of furniture not a life crisis. If you get that worked up over a pallet bench maybe stick to IKEA.
