Heard a guy at the hardware store say he never measures twice for a cut

I was grabbing a new blade for my miter saw at the local Ace yesterday and this older guy was telling the clerk he just eyeballs everything. He said, 'If you're good, you just know the line.' I cut a piece of trim for a window last month and measured three times because I only had one long piece left. Guess who had to go back for more wood? Anyone else think measuring once is just asking for trouble?

Trust that guy and you'll end up with a pile of kindling, not a finished project.

Hey, are we talking about the same guy who tried to build a deck with a butter knife? (Asking for a friend who definitely isn't me, and who definitely doesn't have a shed full of failed birdhouse attempts.)

Oh man, I've been that guy way too many times. Last summer I tried to fix a wobbly table by shoving a folded-up napkin under one leg, and now I can't even look at that table without it rocking sideways and spilling my coffee. I also built a bookshelf that's so crooked it looks like it's trying to do the limbo. Honestly, a butter knife deck sounds about right for my skill level - I'd probably end up with a glorified pile of sticks that doubles as a squirrel condo. Has your friend ever tried using duct tape as a substitute for wood glue? Asking for a real friend this time.
