I finally swapped my $15 harbor freight trowel for a $45 Marshalltown on a tile job

After fighting lippage on a bathroom floor for two days straight, I borrowed my brother-in-law's trowel and got flat tiles in half the time, so has anyone else found that one tool upgrade that actually cuts your work in half?

Man that's a rough way to learn that lesson, I feel your pain on that one.

Gotta admit I've seen this same pattern everywhere not just in tools. Cheap stuff works until it doesn't and then you realize the money you saved cost you twice as much time and frustration. My buddy spent years buying the cheapest trash bags and they'd rip every single time spilling coffee grounds all over the floor. Finally bought the good ones and now he flies through cleanup without a second thought. Same with my sister and her cheap kitchen knives she had for years that couldn't cut through a tomato without smushing it. She got one decent santoku knife and now she actually enjoys cooking again instead of fighting with her tools. It's like the universe keeps teaching us the same lesson over and over that saving a few bucks upfront just makes everything harder in the long run.
