I spent $80 on a paint sprayer for my kitchen cabinets and it was a total waste

I was redoing my kitchen and thought a sprayer would give a smooth finish faster than a brush. I got a basic model, set up plastic sheets everywhere, and mixed the paint. The sprayer clogged three times in the first hour, and the cleanup took longer than the actual painting. I ended up going back to my old roller to finish the job. Has anyone else had a sprayer turn into more trouble than it's worth?

Ugh, the clogging is the worst. I had the same thing happen with a cheap sprayer on a fence project. It's not just you, those things are so finicky with paint thickness. I learned the hard way that for small jobs, the setup and clean-up time kills any speed you gain.

Ever try thinning the paint a little before you spray? I had to do that with my last can of stain and it made a world of difference. @palmer.laura is totally right about the clean-up time too, it's such a pain. Honestly, for anything smaller than a deck, I just go back to a brush now. The sprayer always seems to promise speed but ends up taking twice as long with all the messing around.

Thin the paint way more than you think, it fixes most of the clog issues.
