I was cutting baseboard trim wrong for years because my dad taught me to just eyeball it.

A carpenter in Boise saw me doing it and said, 'Measure twice, cut once' isn't just a saying. Have you ever had a basic rule change how you do a simple job?

Nah, my dad was the same way. Some stuff you can just feel out, saves time on small jobs.

6mm hex bolts don't need a torque wrench. I've done hundreds of them feel is fine. @emma684 I get why that sounds wild but small stuff like cabinet hinges or a ceiling fan bracket overthinking it just wastes time. Your dad probably knew when close enough is good enough. Some repairs you can't screw up that bad anyways.

Honestly your dad just told you to eyeball it? That's wild.
