I was putting up a new shelf in my kitchen and the drywall anchor just crumbled like a cookie.
I mean, I was holding the drill and everything just fell apart, so I had to patch the hole with some compound, move the whole thing over six inches, and use a toggle bolt instead, which honestly worked way better for the cookbooks I was putting up. Has anyone else had to switch plans mid-project because a wall just gave up?

Ugh, drywall anchors are the WORST. What kind were you using, the cheap plastic ones?

Honestly, you're so right about the cheap plastic ones. I had a whole row of shelves come down because those little white anchors just crumbled. Tbh I've learned the hard way that you really need the metal toggle bolt kind for anything with real weight. The plastic is basically useless for anything but a light picture frame. Ngl it turned a simple project into a huge mess.

What if the plastic ones just need a better pilot hole? I've had good luck with the ribbed kind if you drill the right size hole and don't over-tighten them. Maybe @dakota_burns96 just hit a bad spot in the drywall or the drill was set too high. Sometimes the wall is fine, the install is just off.
