My first attempt at a built-in bookshelf involved a lot of duct tape and hope.

After that disaster, I watched a YouTube video from a carpenter in Austin and learned to use a Kreg jig, which made my project in the den actually look like furniture, so what's the one tool that changed your DIY game?

Duct tape and hope is basically the official motto of my early DIY phase. My game changer was finally buying a stud finder that actually beeps and doesn't just light up when I point it at myself.

Tbh I had a similar moment but with a tape measure. I spent three years eyeballing everything and wondering why my shelves always had that weird tilt to them. Then I finally bought one that locks and it was like a whole new world opened up. I measured my coffee table three times just because I could. My husband thought I lost my mind but honestly that little click sound is just so satisfying.

Duct tape and hope is a real mood, I've been there. Getting the right tool for the job is a total game changer. My first real level made everything look so much less janky.
