My sister said she never paints her own walls anymore and it made me stop and think.

We were at her place in Portland last month and I was admiring her living room color. When I asked what brand she used, she just said, "Oh, I hire it out now, it's not worth the time." That hit different because we used to do all our painting together. It made me realize how many people are moving away from the basic DIY stuff. Has anyone else felt a push to hire out simple jobs you used to do yourself?

Yeah, I get that... I tried to paint my own office last year and ended up with more paint on me than the wall. Took me a whole weekend and it still looks kind of wavy in the corners. Now I just weigh how many hours of my free time it's worth versus paying someone who'll be done in an afternoon. Feels a little lame to admit, but my time off is just too short now to spend it all on a project I'm bad at.

Used to think hiring out was lazy until I messed up my own bathroom tile. Now I see paying for skill saves me a ton of stress and weekend time. Sometimes it's just the smarter move.

Yeah @leor37 that whole "weigh how many hours of free time it's worth" thing really got me. Last summer I spent three weekends trying to fix a crooked shelf before I finally called a handyman and he had it straight in twenty minutes, felt like I wasted a whole month just to learn I'm better at other stuff.
