Rant: I think self-leveling compound is way overused for small floor patches
Everyone online acts like you need self-leveling compound for any floor repair bigger than a dime. I used to buy into that and spent $45 on a bag of LevelQuik for a 2-foot patch in my laundry room. Now I just mix up some floor patch from a bucket and trowel it flat. It's faster, cheaper, and I don't need to babysit it for 20 minutes. Am I the only one who thinks these big box store solutions are a marketing trap for simple jobs?

Wait, aren't you supposed to use self-leveler if the floor dips more than like a quarter inch? I thought regular patch was only for filling small holes and stuff, not for leveling an actual low spot.

Yeah Pat is right @angela_park, if the dip is over a quarter inch you really should use self-leveler. I tried to cheat a spot in my laundry room that was a half inch low with regular patch and it cracked within a month. Self-leveler flows out nice and flat on its own, you just pour it and let it find its level. For small dips under a quarter inch, patch works fine, but anything deeper and you will end up redoing it.
