Rant: Why did nobody tell me about sanding sponges for drywall?

I spent 2 hours with regular sandpaper on a 12x12 patch job last weekend and my arms were killing me. Picked up a 3-pack of sanding sponges at Home Depot for $6 and finished the same work in 20 minutes with way less dust. Anyone else switch and never look back?

Regular sandpaper lets you feel the imperfections better and costs way less per square foot.

OH my GOD, this reminds me of the time my uncle tried to sand a boat with a scrub brush because he thought it was the SAME thing. He ended up with more splinters than smooth surface and a VERY angry neighbor whose dock he borrowed!

Oh wow, I actually read somewhere that sanding sponges were originally designed for automotive bodywork before someone figured out they work great for drywall. That makes total sense now after trying them myself. The foam backing really does help you apply even pressure without digging into the paper.
