Took me three full weekends to figure out a leaky toilet base
I thought it'd be a simple wax ring replacement, maybe an hour tops. Well, after pulling the toilet three times and still seeing water seep out, I started losing my mind. Turns out the flange was cracked in a spot I couldn't see unless I stuck my phone under there with the flashlight on. By the time I cut out the old flange and put in a repair ring, I had about 18 hours into what should have been a $15 fix. The worst part was my wife asking every day if the bathroom was usable yet. Has anyone else dealt with a hidden flange crack that just refused to show itself?

Idk man, I think caulking around the base is actually meant to keep water from getting under the toilet from mopping, not to stop a leak from the wax seal. But I feel your pain on that hidden crack. Same thing happened to me a couple years back, I ended up using one of those Oatey repair rings with the metal bracket that screws into the subfloor. Took a few tries to get it level but it saved me from having to cut out the whole flange.

Three full weekends" is crazy, I would've just set the whole house on fire by week two. My wife would've been asking me to "just call a plumber" about 15 hours before you finally found that crack. Honestly though, props for sticking with it because most people would've just caulked it and called it a day.
