Vent: My old way of hanging drywall versus how I do it now
I used to just eyeball it and use a bunch of screws, but after a job in Tempe last year where a whole wall started to sag, I switched to using a laser level and a drywall lift. The change saved me about 3 hours on my last garage project and the finish is way smoother. Has anyone else made a switch like this that saved them a ton of time?

Yeah I was the same way for years, thought all that extra gear was just for people who didn't know what they were doing. Then I had a ceiling job go real bad, tons of cracks showed up after mudding. Borrowed a lift for the next one and it was a total game changer, my neck didn't hurt and the sheets went up perfect. That laser level is the other half of it, no more wavy lines. I still have my old screw gun but I don't miss the guesswork at all.

Wait you were hanging drywall on a ceiling without a lift? That's crazy! I can't even imagine trying to hold up a full sheet with one hand while screwing it in. My arms would give out after like two panels. You must have been sore for days after those jobs.

Yeah the "just people who didn't know what they were doing" part hit close to home. Buddy of mine used to say the same thing until he tried to hang a sheet in his basement solo and it cracked clean in half when he lost his grip. He still uses his old tools but he rents a lift for ceilings now and says it's the only way he doesn't wake up sore the next day.
