Visited a model home in Phoenix and their 'open concept' felt like a big mistake
I mean, it was a nice house, but the kitchen, living room, and dining area were just one giant room with no walls at all. The real estate agent said it was the 'must have' feature, but all I could think about was trying to cook with three kids while the TV is blaring right there. It felt like you could never get a quiet spot. Has anyone else built a house and actually put a wall or two back in?

Heard they call that a "noisy box" now?

It's the same thing with all these new apartments. They look great in pictures but you can hear your neighbor's phone vibrate. We're just building cheap, loud boxes and calling it a style.

Yeah, that "must have" feature sounds rough. My buddy built a place like that and his wife made him put up a half wall between the kitchen and living room after a month. She said trying to watch a show while he was blending a smoothie was like living inside a beehive. It's exactly what @jade47 means by a noisy box. Now you can at least hide the breakfast mess from the couch.
