Warning: Took me 3 hours to patch a single drywall hole because I kept forgetting to cut the loose paper tape flush

My bathroom wall hole behind the towel rack ended up taking an entire Saturday afternoon after I used the wrong joint compound two separate times, has anyone else had a simple patch job spiral into a multi step disaster for no good reason?

I mean, the "loose paper tape" thing is so real. My friend tried to fix a small dent in his kitchen wall and ended up having to cut out a whole 2x2 foot section of drywall because he kept trying to patch over the old tape and it kept bubbling up. Then he realized he bought the wrong mesh tape and had to run to the hardware store at 8pm, and by the time he was done his whole kitchen was covered in dust and he had to sleep on the couch because the compound smelled so bad. He still talks about how that one little dent took three days and cost him like 40 bucks.

Okay but honestly $40 and three days to fix a dent is still better than paying someone a couple hundred bucks to come do it. Your friend probably learned a ton about drywall too, even if it was a mess. That's a win in my book!
