My crooked screenshot of a comparison between using my phone's voice memo vs a proper field recorder for an interview

I tried recording a quick chat on my iPhone's voice memos app (you know, the default one) and the audio came out all tinny and weird, like I was underwater. Then I used my Zoom H1n recorder and it sounded crystal clear, no editing needed. Has anyone else noticed how much background noise gets picked up by phones?

Right because nothing says "professional interview" like sounding like you're recording from inside a washing machine. The phone mic is great for like, telling your mom you'll be late for dinner, but the second a car drives by or someone breathes too loud it's all just static and reverb. I swear my Zoom H1n picks up less background noise sitting on a busy street than my iPhone does in a quiet room with the windows closed.

Oh man, "sounding like you're recording from inside a washing machine" is spot on. @hayden_rodriguez, my friend once recorded an interview on her iPhone and the audio was pure chaos.
