A project manager in Austin kept asking me to 'just make it work' without any clear specs.

We were two weeks into a big commercial plan set, and he kept changing the wall types verbally while I was drafting. He finally said 'I don't care how you draw it, just get it done' when I asked for a final mark-up. How do you guys handle a client who won't lock down the details?

Been there, it's brutal. The real problem is they're asking you to build a trap for yourself. If you guess and draw it wrong, they'll blame you for the cost to fix it later. My move is to send one final email listing every unclear detail and say "per our talk, I'll proceed with my best guess on these items." That shifts the risk back to them. If they still won't answer, at least you have a paper trail when they complain.

Seriously, is a paper trail that big of a deal here?
