Can we talk about how a client's comment made me change my detail view setup?

I was showing a set of foundation plans to a client in their kitchen, and they pointed at a small corner and said, 'I can't tell if that's a step or a shadow.' It was a line weight issue I'd missed. Now I always do a quick check at 200% zoom before any review... anyone else have a simple step that catches stuff like that?

Honestly, that zoom check is such a lifesaver, right?

Forget the zoom check, it gives you a false sense of security. You zoom in on one tiny section and fix a pixel, but you totally miss how the whole page flows together. It makes you focus on the trees and miss the forest. I've sent out files that looked perfect zoomed in but were a complete mess at normal view because the balance was off. Relying on it too much can actually make your final product worse.

Oh man, that exact thing has burned me before. I started printing a hard copy for my own final check, just a cheap black and white sheet. Something about seeing it on paper makes those line weight problems jump out every single time. The screen can trick your eyes.
