Can we talk about senior drafters who refuse to use CAD layers?

I work at a small firm in Cleveland and the senior guy here still draws everything on Layer 0 in AutoCAD, says layers are a waste of time. Last week he emailed me a file with 400 lines and no distinction between walls and plumbing. Has anyone else had to deal with a veteran drafter who fights basic organization?

Used to be on his side about layers being overkill. Then I got a file from a guy like that and spent three hours untangling his mess. Changed my mind real fast.

Three hours? Man, either that file was a disaster or you just don't like untangling stuff. I get it's annoying, but maybe the guy just had a system you weren't used to. Some people call it a mess, I call it organized chaos. @the_kevin I've seen files that looked like spaghetti and still worked fine after a quick tweak. Unless you're doing something super specific, a few extra layers usually just add a little clutter, not a full blown crisis. So yeah, I'm still not sold on layers being some kind of necessary evil.
