Had a major layer control meltdown on a big Phoenix city plan

I was finishing up a set of utility drawings for a new subdivision in Phoenix last Thursday, and my layer manager in AutoCAD just froze up completely. I had about 200 layers active from the civil engineer's file, and the whole program locked for a solid ten minutes. I ended up having to purge and audit the drawing, which saved it, but I lost my custom layer filter setup. Has anyone else had a DWG get that bogged down from external references?

Ever think layer filters were just extra work? I used to skip them until a crashed file like yours wiped my whole system. Now I set them up first thing, every time.

Did you try turning it off and on again? Sounds like you and betty126 learned the hard way that layer filters are basically a hostage situation.
