Heard a senior guy say mechanical pencils are better than wood pencils for drafting

I was at a shop talk last month and an older drafter swore mechanical pencils are the only way to go. But I disagree. Wood pencils give me more control over line weight with a quick sharpen. Mechanical ones snap leads at the worst times when I'm deep in a layout. Anyone else stick with wood pencils for hand drawings?

Wood pencils all the way. The line variation from a quick sharpen beats mechanical every time for control. Mechanical leads snap mid stroke and ruin the flow.

Have you tried different hardness grades of wood pencils to see if one holds a point longer than the others? I find that a good 2H keeps a fine tip through quite a bit of sketching before I need to sharpen again. Just curious if you stick with one type or switch things up based on the drawing.
