Honestly, my old boss told me to never use the 'trace' function on our old AutoCAD 2008 setup, and I just ignored him for a decade.

That old trace command was basically a digital Etch A Sketch.

Digital Etch A Sketch" is the perfect way to put it. I remember feeling that same mix of wonder and frustration trying to make anything with it. Those old commands really did make you work for every line.
