I keep seeing people skip the detail callouts on foundation plans

I was reviewing a set from a new hire and every wall section was missing the keyed detail markers, which meant the contractor had to guess at the footing connections. This happened three times last month with different junior drafters. How do you make sure your details are properly called out without cluttering the main sheet?

I mean, maybe they should have double checked the drawings before sending them out.

Is it really that huge of a deal though? I've seen plenty of jobs where the contractor just figures it out from the wall section itself without needing a big arrow pointing at it. Missing a callout sucks but getting sued over it sounds like an exaggeration, maybe that firm had bigger problems.
