My old drafting table lamp finally gave out mid-project
I was finishing a set of elevation details for a garage addition yesterday when the fluorescent tube in my 20-year-old Luxo lamp flickered and died with a pop. I had to finish under the overhead light, which threw terrible shadows and gave me a headache after an hour. What's a good, solid replacement that won't break the bank but actually lights the whole sheet properly?

My old Luxo too... until a $40 LED changed everything.

$40 LED, huh? Was it one of those name-brand ones like BenQ or just a random no-name off Amazon? @coleman.christopher, I'm curious what your buddy's lamp is doing that a decent LED can't (or maybe the old Luxo just had better build quality). I always figured the old school architect lamps were built like tanks, so I'm wondering if the switch was for light quality or just saving desk space.
